Final Four is here as college basketball continues to wind down their season. Saddest thing about it is this will be the last time you can play college sports on DraftKings or FanDuel which sucks hard for those of us like yours truly who has done alright with college football. Anyways, here's how I see it for this weekend in Houston.
1.) North Carolina Tar Heels - They are the favorites heading into the weekend. Carolina's run to the Final Four isn't being talked about enough. They haven't won a game by single digits in four games. The closest margin of victory was 14. What's made Carolina scary is they've figured it out by the three-point arc, and Marcus Paige became a beast again with the bright lights. Brice Johnson looks like a man child like he has all year when given the ball. Tar Heels need to keep getting production from players like Theo Pinson and Kennedy Meeks. This would be North Carolina's first title since 2009.
2.) Villanova Wildcats - Not many expected Villanova to be here, nor to be the second best team in the tournament. Big East fans aren't surprised. I don't think it's worth looking at Game 1 of Villanova-Oklahoma as it was on a neutral court in Hawaii. Ryan Arcidiacono, the suburban dad legend, is going to play a major factor in winning the title. Kris Jenkins will need to find other ways to score the basketball with the bad shooting conditions in Houston. Daniel Ochefu staying healthy and in the game is the difference with this team. Villanova is looking for their first national title since the memorable 85' team.
3. Oklahoma Sooners - Buddy Hield will be the main event. He has some major motivation as the AP voted Denzel Valentine, Player of the Year, over Hield. The casual fans will all be tuning in for Hield, and it could be a grave disappointment. NRG Stadium is one of the worst for shooters. Unders have went 14-1 there. This could be a huge problem for Oklahoma who live and die by the three-point line. Now, I'm sure Lon Kruger planned this out and will tell his team to relax on the threes. If Hield scores 30 and win, build him a damn statue. Oklahoma looks for their first national title. Last time they were here was 2002 with Hollis Price's mouth guard.
4. Syracuse Orange - Yes, the Orange shouldn't be the in the tournament. But they are now so we need to respect them. Orange are the 'Nobody believes us team' but it's not unreasonable to think a team who plays tough defense and a 2-3 zone in a bad shooting arena can't win this whole thing. Malachi Richardson is absolutely fantastic to watch. Same goes for Tyler Lydon who is a star in the making. Orange need to play discipline basketball if they want to take down the giant killers in North Carolina. This will be Syracuse's toughest. Orange look for their first title since 2003.
Charlie.
