When it comes to Bucks rumors, you never really know what to make of them. There isn't a go-to source on things like how Green Bay Packers news seemingly gets broken by Ian Rapoport or Jay Glazer. But Gery Woelfel of the Journal Times says both John Hammond and Jason Kidd could be looking for new jobs next season. This news surprises me to say the least as this season hasn't been a failure in my eyes.
Let's start with Hammond as the plan Woefel lays out seems pretty clear and makes sense to re-join Joe Dumars in New Orleans with Anthony Davis. Hammond leaving would be a big loss to the Bucks. He got Khris Middleton to Milwaukee along with countless other deals and draft picks throughout the years including Giannis Antetokounmpo. Rod Thorn name has been thrown around who works for the Bucks now, but he's 74 years old, that seems like a set backward. There are definite names in the General Manager world where change could happen and it would be the right thing.
As for Kidd, this has been a lingering story. Adrian Wojnarowski reported something very similar in January. I do think Kidd deserves another year with this team with Giannis leading the point and Jabari Parker's development. Woelfel cites Tom Thibodeau, but are we sure Thibs would allow for Giannis to be the leader? The strong-headed attitude of Thibs might not work well. Joe Prunty would be an obvious leader, but he's a 'yes' man to the front office, forget it. The one reason this might be floated out there is Kidd has serious eyes on a return to New York for the Knicks job or the Lakers position even though Kidd has zero ties with the franchise, the allure of Los Angeles is enough.
Bucks weren't a failure this year. They overachieved last year in a bad Eastern Conference and came back to earth this season. Parker and Antetokounmpo improved and put this team in great position next season, there's not much to complain about currently.
Charlie.
