Year 2 of the BrewCap where we look at all of the things during one Milwaukee Brewers game. This is a rough year so we'll try to keep it light and humorous without getting too mad about things unless it's really terrible.
As we talked about yesterday, Milwaukee Brewers seem to be a very average team. They now have been shutout in two of the last three losses and going back to their first loss versus St. Louis, they only had one run. Therefore in the last three losses, they have one run in 27 innings. That's not going to win you many games. Brewers have comeback from trailing early but it seems when the bats go quiet, they stay quiet.
Player of the Day (Pirates) - Jonathon Niese: Great start for the former Mets pitcher in his third start with Pittsburgh. Niese went seven strong only allowing three hits and striking out three. Milwaukee couldn't figure out Niese. Last year, they had some significant problems with left-handed starters, and it continued in this game last night.
Golden Sombrero Honoree - Scooter Gennett: This first week Scooter didn't turn into second week Scooter on the road. He's 2-for-17 in his last seven days. Now, Gennett faced a couple left-handers in that time, but still, Gennett talked about how he can handled them yet we haven't seen it. I do like he's taking walks.
When This Game Turned - Fourth inning: We had a scoreless game going into the bottom of the fourth inning before Pittsburgh attacked Taylor Jungmann. Josh Harrison's triple proved to be the real difference as it did not only score the second run, but Harrison also scored on a Jody Mercer sacrifice fly. Milwaukee would be trailing by three after the dust was settled.
Next Up: Milwaukee will look for a series win, and a .500 road trip in a half hour. Zach Davies will make his first start of the season. He did well in Triple A for the first couple weeks and pitched alright at the end of last season. Pittsburgh will send Juan Nicasio who had one great start and one bad one thus far.
Charlie.
