BrewCap Vol. 8: Santana's Big Ninth Inning Blast Wins It.

Year 2 of the BrewCap where we look at all of the things during one Milwaukee Brewers game. This is a rough year so we'll try to keep it light and humorous without getting too mad about things unless it's really terrible. Sorry, I missed ya on the third game of the season. That's not a good look, but to be fair, my body shut down and woke up to go to work, that'll happen.

Many teams play like their coach, and in the early goings of the 2016 season, Milwaukee Brewers are playing Craig Counsell. Scrappy, gritty and any other superlatives you want for an undersized baseball player. Milwaukee trailed by two early on, and even after a Brandon Moss homer to tie the game, Brewers responded in the ninth inning with a big-time blast by Domingo Santana off Trevor Rosenthal.

Player of the Day (Brewers) - Chase Anderson (P): Even though Milwaukee gave up three runs early, they were all unearned due to a Collin Walsh error. Anderson cruised after that only allowing one more hit past the first quarter along with four strikeouts. He hasn't allowed a run to start the season. I'm hoping this is like Scott Feldman with the Cubs where he had a great first half, and Chicago flipped him for Jake Arrieta.

Player of the Day (Cardinals) -
Brandon Moss (1B): He pulled a Russell Branyan with a huge home run off Michael Blazek in the eighth inning to tie the game up. Moss is known for his bat, and he showed why tonight tying the game up momentarily. Cardinals can kill you in many ways.

Golden Sombrero Honoree - Collin Walsh - Counsell gives Aaron Hill the night off (Well half of it) and Walsh has a massive error in the first inning leading to three runs scored by St. Louis. He needs to be better out there when given opportunities to start for the team. Walsh is fully on-board the struggle bus.

Highlight: Santana's home run was amazing - Consider, he's facing one of the best closers in the game with Rosenthal. Also add in he took the ball to deep right center where not many balls fly out of Busch Stadium. That was pure power from the right fielder. This is also vindication of why he hits leadoff. Santana doesn't get a shot in the ninth if he's batting fifth.

Next Up: Milwaukee will try to get a series win against St. Louis which happens once a year. Both pitchers in the game struggled to start the season - Wily Peralta and Jaime Garcia. Big starts for both pitchers.

Charlie.
