Year 2 of the BrewCap where we look at all of the things during one Milwaukee Brewers game. This is a rough year so we'll try to keep it light and humorous without getting too mad about things unless it's really terrible.
Milwaukee's pitching staff needs to work out some things in the coming days. Brewers gave up 14 hits in a rain-shortened six inning game where the Minnesota Twins were victorious for the fourth straight time. Milwaukee's pitchers surrendered 31 hits in their last two games. Good news, Wily Peralta is on the mound tomorrow!
Player of the Day (Twins) - Byung Ho-Park: He's the new hotness in Minnesota and he had his first multi-hit game as a Twin plus a big home run which put Minnesota back on top after Milwaukee tied the game 3-3. He's going to be pretty good once Park figures out major pitching. It'll be dangerous seeing him and Miguel Sano who also homered in the middle of Minnesota's order.
Player of the Day (Brewers) - Ryan Braun: Good game from Braunie who drove in two of the Brewers four runs. Braun did it with a single and a double plus he scored a run as well. Props to Scooter Gennett as well for setting the table for Braun's success. The top of the order continues to produce for the Brewers.
Golden Sombrero Honoree - Scooter's short arm: Yes, Gennett had a good day at the plate, but he cost Milwaukee two runs in the sixth. I realize these two runs didn't matter in the long run given the rain delay but had we played out this game, Minnesota getting two insurance runs is a huge part of it. Blaine Boyer retired the first two batters before Gennett weakly threw to first and Eduardo Nunez reached base. He would steal second easily before Brian Dozier drove him in and Joe Mauer followed suit.
Lowlight: Target Field not having a dome: This is why as a Midwest team, you should have a roof to cover when things get rough out there. Further, what's with waiting out a rain delay in April? Milwaukee isn't making a playoff push, call the damn game after an hour. Let's move on especially with another game this afternoon.
When This Game Turned - Fifth inning: After back-to-back one-out doubles for Milwaukee, Jonathan Lucroy and Chris Carter failed to pick up Braun at second base. Milwaukee trailed 5-4 at the time. Brewers haven't been bad about runners in scoring position yet this season, but that was a case where it'd be nice to see timely hitting.
Next Up: Milwaukee faces Minnesota again with Wily Peralta on the mound facing Ervin Sananta. This is a major start for Wily. He doesn't need to be awesome, but Peralta needs a solid outing to quell the haters. Weather doesn't look promising for this one therefore we might see this matchup on Wednesday night at Miller Park instead
