BrewCap Vol.10: Braun's Big Bat Carries Brewers

Year 2 of the BrewCap where we look at all of the things during one Milwaukee Brewers game. This is a rough year so we'll try to keep it light and humorous without getting too mad about things unless it's really terrible.

After 10 games, it's clear Milwaukee might be an average team. Where there are
good games and bad ones with no real consistency. If that's the case, I can live with it. I know many people want the Brewers to bottom out, and I do think there will be trades made this season to add even more prospects to the mix. Milwaukee is somewhat loaded already and will only get better, young, talent. Brewers put the hurt on the Pirates in a 8-4 victory.

Player of the Day (Brewers) - Ryan Braun (OF) - Big game for Braunie who enjoys playing at PNC Park. Braun hit two home runs and drove in four RBI's in this one. Both blasts were moonshots going 460 and 419 feet respectively. No idea what Francisco Cervilli was doing as he place the ball in the same spot for the second home run. Braun doesn't mind he crushed the ball again. Hopefully, he can get hot for the next couple of weeks.

Player of the Day (Pirates) - Matt Joyce (PH) - A concerning trend for the Brewers this week is giving up home runs to pinch hitters. This time, Matt Joyce belted a three-run shot to pull Pittsburgh within two runs at the time. Starling Marte would add an RBI ground-rule double. Thankfully, Braun's second home run would put the game out of reach.

Golden Sombrero Honoree - Keon Broxton: He still is without a hit for the season. Craig Counsell is trying to be patient with him in the bottom of the order, but so far, Broxton hasn't provided much at all. He did draw a walk where he ended up scoring on the plate, but it's not been the debut he's wanted at the plate for the Brewers.

Highlight: Jonathan Villar's solid game - Another bright spot from this game was Jonathan Villar's night at the plate. He went three-for-six with two runs scored and an RBI hitting second as Jeff Locke was a left-hander. Going back to Scooter Gennett's success early on, it does seem like the two-hitter is getting much better pitches due to a renewed respect for Braun. Villar seems very comfortable at the top of the order.

When This Game Turned - Eighth inning: After a four-run Pirate seventh inning, Milwaukee had to respond and didn't seem like they would have much of one after getting two quick outs. Villar would get a single and Braun delivers his second home run to give the Crew a little space.

Next Up: Milwaukee goes for the series win tonight with Taylor Jungmann on the mound trying to recover from his worst start as a professional. He pitched well at PNC Park for his major league debut. Jonathon Niese, another left-hander, will go for Pittsburgh. He's been very average in his first two starts for Pittsburgh.

Charlie.
