As Utah played Los Angeles and Golden State played Memphis, I made fun of people who were watching Kobe Bryant's last game over two playoff teams with one going for 73 wins. Then we started to see the numbers of Bryant's performance where he's going crazy when it comes to be points. I finally flip over to the Lakers game right around the start of the fourth and so glad I made the switch. Kobe finished with 60 points in his final game, and what many will call his best ever.
The fourth quarter was a thing of beauty as Bryant finished his career with scoring the last 17 of 19 points and assisting on the other one. Kobe shot 50 times tonight which is excessive, but it was his night. Bryant played at such a high-level last night. Kobe had an out-of-this-world experience where he got to be a kid again and shoot at the playground with no one watching or expecting a pass. Utah didn't have an answer for him. Bryant hit an iconic step-back to give the Lakers the lead in the final minute of the game. There aren't movies that could write a better script than what happened in Los Angeles yesterday.
This will be remembered for quite some time. I can't think of a better way to send off your career on such a high note. Bryant will go down in lore and people will forget about the 50 shots. He's a hell of a competitor and does anything for the team. Kobe will be missed but it's going to be funny when he coaches the Lakers in three years.
Thanks for the memories.
Charlie.
