Branden Grace Breaks Through at RBC Heritage

Golf tournaments are always better when they are won versus a player backing their way into it. Branden Grace won his first PGA Tour event with a massive day on Sunday going five under with seven birdies and two bogeys. Grace had the lead for a majority of Sunday with Russell Knox and Luke Donald attempting to dethone him from the Sunday lead. Grace wins for his first time on the PGA Tour and his 13th overall spanning three tours. For Grace, he gets a win after registering two top fives at majors last season. He had a rough start to 2016, but this played to his strengths. Grace will be a name you hear a lot this season and beyond.

While Sunday had about as much excitement as two old people having sex, Bryson DeChambeau and Jason Day's Saturday's stole the show for different reasons. DeChambeau, the flamboyant American, grabbed a share of the lead early on Saturday. He would fade a little bit but finished tied for fourth in his first ever pro vent. That's better than what Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth did in their first tournaments as a professional.

On the other hand, Day had a forgettable Saturday posting a 79 and knocking himself out of contention. He was probably due for one of these days given how well he's played over the past few months. Day finished up with a 68, but nowhere near the top of the leaderboard to make things interesting. Day is off this week, and it isn't known if he'll play New Orleans in two weeks. My guess is no with two big tournaments coming up in May.

Charlie.
