BrewCap Vol. 12: Davies' Debut Goes Sour

Year 2 of the BrewCap where we look at all of the things during one Milwaukee Brewers game. This is a rough year so we'll try to keep it light and humorous without getting too mad about things unless it's really terrible.

Without Ryan Braun in the lineup, Milwaukee Brewers figured to be hard-press to find runs today. Little did they know their pitching would be the issue. Milwaukee surrendered nine runs, the third time this season Milwaukee allowed more than seven runs in a game. Brewers are finally done with their murderous start to the season where they played four teams who could be in the playoffs in October.

Player of the Day (Pirates) - Josh Harrison: Pittsburgh had 17 hits therefore it's hard to choose which Pirate hitter is worthy of the distinction. We're going with Harrison given the two double hit off Zach Davies and scored a run plus drove one with his other double. Harrison deserves to be moved up in the order in the coming weeks.

Golden Sombrero Honoree - Jonathan Villar's error: This will sound repetive a bit, but the third inning is where the game turned as well as GS winner. Milwaukee trailed by three runs until Villar made a costly error on a Jody Mercer grounder allowing two runs to score. Milwaukee isn't good enough to be bad in the field. Villar's error proved to be costly.

Highlight: Pittsburgh's unis - Pirates are wearing their 'We Are Family' threads from the 70's on Sunday games and boy, are they dope. Some of the best we'll see all season.

When This Game Turned - Third inning: This game got away from Milwaukee with five runs given up as the big inning bit the Brewers again. What's more frustrating for Davies is the Pirates had two infield singles during that time. They weren't exactly the most hard hit balls yet still, he couldn't record an out which is a problem.

Next Up: Milwaukee's schedule gets much easier with four games against Minnesota. This is the weird two games at home, two games on the road. It feels weird to play the Twins this early and not on the weekend. Phil Hughes goes for the Twins who has struggled to start this season and hasn't faced most of Milwaukee's batters. Chase Anderson will put his scoreless streak on the line as well.

Charlie.
