Year 2 of the BrewCap where we look at all of the things during one Milwaukee Brewers game. This is a rough year so we'll try to keep it light and humorous without getting too mad about things unless it's really terrible.
One of the better wins for Milwaukee this season. They responded to the Minnesota call every time. Minnesota took an early lead, and Milwaukee came back. When the Twins struck for three runs in the eighth inning to tie the game, Brewers added one in the ninth and hung on for the win in the bottom half. Milwaukee eclipsed their April win total from last year with the win today.
Player of the Day (Brewers) - Scooter Gennett: Another good game from Scooter batting in front of Ryan Braun. He's doing a great job of getting big hits from the second position. Gennett had two hits including a double and he drove in the game-winning run after the Yadiel Rivera double. Great job by Scooter today being a big hitter at the top of the order.
Player of the Day (Twins) - Eddie Rosario: One trend I've been monitoring are the Brewers bullpen giving up home runs to pinch hitters. Eddie Rosario is the third pinch hitter to do it thus far. I don't know if the catcher or the pitching coach needs to go out there when a pinch hitter approaches the plate, but this is getting ridiculous.
Golden Sombrero Honoree - Tyler Thornburg: This pains me as he's pitched really well so far this season, but Throny gave up big flys to Byung-ho Park and Rosario giving up the three run lead. I imagine this is a blip in the radar for Thronburg who has been good thus far. Teams only had two hits against him before today.
Highlight: Wily Peralta didn't look like a complete trainwreck - So Wily Peralta didn't have a great start, but he didn't have a bad start either if that makes sense. Easily, this was his best start of the season. Peralta went five innings only allowing four hits. He did walk four batters which isn't what you want from your starter. Baby steps for Peralta though, hopefully, he can build on it.
When This Game Turned - Pick your inning: There were so many chances where Minnesota could have cut into the lead before the eighth. Peralta and Michael Blazek both did great jobs to preserve the three-run lead.
Next Up: Milwaukee heads home to play this same Twins team at Miller Park tomorrow night. Tommy Milone goes for Minnesota while Jimmy Nelson will attempt to build on his hot start. Milone struggled in his first two outings this season.
Charlie.
