Year 2 of the BrewCap where we look at all of the things during one Milwaukee Brewers game. This is a rough year so we'll try to keep it light and humorous without getting too mad about things unless it's really terrible.
Milwaukee Brewers have this bounce back quality to them early in the season. Whether it's losing a couple games then responding with two straight wins like they have done this week or regaining a lead after losing it an inning beforehand. Milwaukee gets a season-high in runs with 10 and a season-high in hits with 13. Great win for the Brewers, and they look to take the series tomorrow afternoon.
Player of the Day (Brewers) - Chris Carter: Many had good games at the plate, but none greater than Carter. He had two hits in five plate appearances and both scored runs. Carter drove in the opening run for the Crew with a double then hit a huge blast to break open the game for Milwaukee putting them up by four runs at the time. Carter has nine of his first 12 hits for extra bases. He's had the start we all hoped for as Brewers fans.
Golden Sombrero Honoree - Jimmy Nelson's homer pitches: Man, Jimmy Nelson would have a sub-one ERA if it weren't for home runs. He's been pitching really well, but unfortunately for Nelson, he has one or two bad pitches a game. Oswaldo Arcia and Eddie Rosario both took him deep in this game. But nothing to be too upset about just that Nelson's pitching really well sans the homers.
Highlight: Timely hitting - This game makes you think big things of the Milwaukee Brewers. Other than Yadiel Rivera, everyone found a way to contribute in this game including Aaron Hill with his first blast of the year, and Ramon Flores driving in a run. Milwaukee has a potent offense, and if the pitching can be alright, the conversation about this team will be a little different.
When This Game Turned - Fifth inning: The game tied at one, Milwaukee had two outs in the inning with Flores on first. Domingo Santana drew a walk. Jonathan Villar drew another walk loading the bases for Ryan Braun. Minnesota would remove their starter then Michael Tonkin would walk in Braunie before Jonathan Lucroy doubled in two more. That's what's different about this year's Brewers. Much more patience at the plate knocked the starter out of the game as well as three runs.
Next Up: Milwaukee finishes up this series tomorrow afternoon with Taylor Jungmann on the mound. Big start needed from Taylor. Ricky Nolasco takes the mound for the Twins. He's no stranger to Miller Park but only faced four Brewers in his career.
Charlie.
