BrewCap Vol. 4: Slide Rule Bails Out Brewers

Year 2 of the BrewCap where we look at all of the things during one Milwaukee Brewers game. This is a rough year so we'll try to keep it light and humorous without getting too mad about things unless it's really terrible. Sorry, I missed ya on the third game of the season. That's not a good look, but to be fair, my body shut down and woke up to go to work, that'll happen.

Milwaukee has themselves winning streak to start the season. Some people might be surprised by the Brewers success here, but one thing I have said all along is the best thing would be for Milwaukee to be really good for the first couple months of the season. They nearly blew a 6-0 lead in two innings, but the Chase Utley rule saved their asses. You don't want to win a game like that, and I have a feeling we're going to see less of it called as the season moves on. I'm already prepared for Milwaukee to lose a game like that

Player of the Day (Brewers) - Chase Anderson (P): After a rough Spring Training, Anderson had a great debut for the Brewers going five innings with four hits, five strikeouts and no runs allowed. Anderson did not walk a batter as well. Once again, the Brewers seem to be limiting their starting pitchers early on in the season with Anderson only getting 80 pitches.

Player of the Day (Astros) -
Tyler White (1B) - I get Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story is the big headline this week, but Tyler White is on a complete tear to begin his career. The rookie is currently 9-for-13 through four games with two home runs including a big three-run shot in the ninth inning to pull Houston close. He's a machine.

Golden Sombrero Honoree - Sam Freeman - Quite a debut for the reliver Milwaukee acquired for cash as he only gets one batter out and surrenders a three-run home run. Let's hope Freeman can turn it around in the games to come or this was a wasteful deal by Stearns and company.

Highlight: Longballs were out in full force - Milwaukee are going to hit a bunch of home runs this year. What you like from your right-handed bats are both Chris Carter's home runs versus San Francisco and Houston were to the opposite field. Same goes for Ryan Braun who hit his first home run of the season to the opposite field. Scooter Gennett continues to show off his power stroke as well.

Lowlight: That slide rule - Not the way you want to win a baseball game. Milwaukee won and survived a ninth-inning rally yet still, it's bullshit it ended with Colby Rasmus' typical slide into second base.  Like I said in the open, I think it will be fixed as the time goes on this season and not called very much.

When The Game Turned: Eight inning - Braun doesn't hit that home run, this game would have been tied heading into the final at-bat for Milwaukee before extra innings. This is why insurance runs are always big no matter the score at that point.

Next Up: Milwaukee hopes to get a better start from Wily Peralta tonight at The Keg. Doug Fister will make his first start for Houston. He has very limited experience against Milwaukee bats.

Charlie.
